Building a Legacy.
One Player at a Time.
Coach Terry's basketball journey started in the heart of Detroit, under the tutelage of Michigan High School coaching legend Bernie Holowicki, at Detroit Catholic Central High School. As a pivotal member of the team, he helped secure a city Catholic League Championship and three district titles.
Terry’s individual prowess on the court earned him accolades as the Detroit Free Press Catholic Player of the Year, and he received honors such as All-Area, All-City, All-Metro, and All-State recognition. He even garnered Honorable Mention for the prestigious McDonald’s All-American title.
Upon graduating high school , Terry received a scholarship to Austin Peay State University, where he served as point guard for the Governors and was named a two-year captain. Known for his high basketball IQ, Terry was a brilliant, fundamentally sound player who led by example.
However, his basketball journey faced a formidable obstacle during his junior season at Austin Peay, where he suffered a severe ankle injury. It was a setback that could have ended his career, but Terry’s determination and relentless work ethic prevailed. He underwent two surgeries and a grueling rehabilitation program, emerging stronger both on and off the court. During this time, he realized the importance of hard work and refocused on earning his college degree.
Terry's passion for the game never waned, and he started training local high school and college players while volunteering his expertise at schools in Clarksville, Tennessee. Immersed once again in the basketball world, his renewed enthusiasm led to the creation of one Advanced Guard Camp in 2005. In just one year, the camp gained recognition as one of the hottest summer basketball programs across Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia.
The Birth of Playmaker Basketball Academy
Inspired by his love for the game and a burning desire to mentor young student-athletes, Terry founded Playmaker Basketball Academy. He believes in teaching the fundamentals of the game while instilling essential life lessons. Coach Terry's mission is to foster balanced players on the court and, more importantly, help them lead balanced lives off of it.
Our Core Values
